Alessandro Barbucci

Alessandro Barbucci (1973) made his debut at Disney at just eighteen and soon became one of the main pillars of Topolino and PKNA. Alongside teaching at the Disney Academy and taking part in the creation of short films and advertising campaigns, he co-created the worldwide success W.I.T.C.H. together with Elisabetta Gnone and Barbara Canepa.

In 2000, he moved into Franco-Belgian comics, creating—together with Canepa—the science fiction graphic novel Sky Doll, later published across the world, from the USA (Marvel) to China and Japan.

Always in 2000 he designed the visual identity of the series Monster Allergy, which was launched simultaneously as a comic, a magazine, and an animated TV series (Cartoon Network, Netflix). In 2010, his new work as a complete author was released: Chosp, strongly influenced by manga aesthetics, along with the first volume of the series Lord of Burger, for which he served as character designer and cover artist.

From 2013 onward, he illustrated the fantasy saga Ekhö – Mirror World, written by Christophe Arleston and colored by Nolwenn Lebreton, published throughout Europe.

In addition to creating the character design for the series L’Alchimiste, in 2020 he created and illustrated the new children’s series Les Sœurs Grémillet, written in collaboration with Giovanni Di Gregorio, which has enjoyed great public success and critical acclaim across Europe, selling more than 700.000 copies in 5 years.

He currently divides his time between comics, character design, and the creation of illustrations for art galleries in Brussels and Paris.
